UPDATE: Two Children Die In School Bus Crash

Kentucky State Police have identified the two children killed in a Carrol County Head Start bus crash on Monday.

Ryder Deitz and Caroline Tuttle, both three-years-old and from Carrollton, died when the bus went off the roadway on Boone Road and overturned.

As of Tuesday morning, the Kentucky State Police has not received word on the condition of the three children that were flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital.  The child that was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center is in serious condition.  The condition of the bus assistant, who was flown to the University of Kentucky, is unknown at this time.

An accident reconstruction team is currently examining the bus to look for any mechanical issues or other factors that could have contributed to the crash.  Another reconstruction team is at the crash site finishing up the investigation at the scene.

KSP said additional information on the conditions of the crash victims will be sent out as it becomes available.

(Carroll County, Ky.) – Two children died and four others were rushed to area hospitals following a school bus crash in Carroll County Monday.

At about 4:32 p.m., Carroll County dispatchers received a 911 call of a crash involving a bus into a tree off Boone Road, according to Kentucky State Police. The bus was carrying nine children, the driver, and an adult assistant.

“Initial investigation shows that the bus left the roadway for currently unknown reasons, partially overturned onto its side, and hit a tree,” said Tpr. Brad Arterburn.

Two of the children were pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner.  Three of the children were flown by Air Methods, Inc. and PHI, Inc. to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.  One child and the bus assistant were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. 

Three children were examined at the scene and released to their parents. The driver of the bus was not injured. 

Troopers said the medical conditions of passengers transported to area hospitals was unknown as on Monday evening.

The Head Start bus was equipped with seatbelts.

“It appears that they were in use by all occupants at the time of the crash,” Arterburn said.

KSP’s investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Carrollton Police Department, Carroll County EMS, Carroll County Rescue, Ghent Fire Department, Gallatin County EMS, Henry County EMS, and the Henry County Coroner.
