UPDATE: Three Victims Recovered From Fatal Fire in Carrollton

City officials gave an update on the incident this afternoon.

UPDATE: At a press conference this afternoon, officials gave another update on recovery efforts following a tragic fatal fire on 5th Street in Carrollton.

A Carrollton Police spokesman said a third victim was located inside the home today and that there is an additional victim that is still being searched for.

Officials say they received the call to respond to the fire at 5:59 a.m. Thursday. By the time firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. The fire caused parts of the home to collapse with a majority of the debris ending up in the basement.

Crews reportedly had the fire under control within an hour of being at the scene, but were forced to wait to begin looking for occupants inside the home until several hot spots were dealt with.

"Once your initial fire is out, it does take a lot of time. You have a lot of hot spots that you incur. There was a lengthy process to make sure it was out and safe for recovery team efforts to occur," said an EMA spokesperson.

The names, ages, and genders of the victims are not being released at this time.

A toddler that was removed from the fire is improving at a Louisville hospital and the outlook is said to be "promising."
