Three Republicans Picked To Be Shoo-In Candidates For Milan Council

The Republican party convention held last week was a de facto election for Milan Town Council, but some citizens wonder why it wasn't better publicized.

(Milan, Ind.) - Town council seats in Milan have been filled even before election day.

A Republican convention was held at Milan Town Hall on Thursday, August 16. Registered Republican voters residing in the Town of Milan had to choose from among six candidates to go on the November ballot.

The three candidates receiving the most votes were Donald E. Call, Floyd J. Fox, and Deborah A. Shumate.

Thursday’s convention was more than just picking candidates. It was essentially an election.

“Since no Democrats filed for the office, the three who come out on top tonight will, by default, be the Milan Town Counsel for the next four years beginning in January,” current Milan Town Council member Noel Houze told Eagle Country 99.3.

One Milan resident, who asked Eagle Country 99.3 that they be kept anonymous, voiced displeasure that the GOP convention was not widely advertised before it took place.

Houze says the party is only required to post the information in three public places. Notice of the Milan convention was posted at the town hall, the post office, and the library.

Some of the town council candidates or their relatives did post on social media about the convention. No formal notice of the convention was received by Eagle Country 99.3 ahead of the event.
