(Aurora, Ind.) - South Dearborn Community School Corporation is proud to announce the appointment of Grant Schiering as the next Principal of South Dearborn Middle School.

Schiering brings a wealth of educational experience, a passion for student success, and a deep commitment to building positive relationships with students, staff, and families. Having served as Assistant Principal at South Dearborn Middle School for the past three and a half years, he is a familiar and trusted leader within the school community.

Schiering earned his bachelor’s degree in education with a specialization in integrated social studies from Miami University and later completed his master’s degree in educational administration from Indiana State University.

He began his career in education as an instructional assistant at Sunman-Dearborn Intermediate School before accepting a teaching position at East Central High School. During his nine years at East Central, Schiering taught World History, Psychology, and U.S. Government while also dedicating countless hours to coaching and student activities. His involvement included coaching basketball, football, track, and softball, as well as serving as co-sponsor of Student Council and the Senior Class.

In 2020, Schiering transitioned into school administration, serving as a part-time Dean of Students at East Central Middle School while continuing to teach at East Central High School. In 2022, he became the full-time Dean of Students before joining South Dearborn Middle School as Assistant Principal in January 2023.

Throughout his tenure at South Dearborn, Schiering has focused on strengthening school climate and culture, building meaningful relationships, and creating an environment where students and staff can thrive. His leadership has played a key role in fostering a positive and supportive middle school experience.

“Grant has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Ron Ross. “His leadership, dedication to building relationships, and focus on creating a positive school culture have made a lasting impact at South Dearborn Middle School. We are confident that he is ready to take the reins and lead SDMS to new heights.”

Schiering expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the South Dearborn community.

“I am honored and excited to serve as Principal of South Dearborn Middle School,” said Schiering. “The students, staff, and families of SDMS
make this a special place, and I look forward to continuing our work together to provide an exceptional educational experience for every student.”
