SEI's 2011 Home Sales Mixed By County

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Last year was a better year for home sellers in Dearborn County as sales were up nearly 16 percent.

According to the Indiana Association of Realtors latest, 391 detached single family homes, condos, or townhomes were sold in Dearborn County last year, up 15.7 percent from the 338 homes dealt in 2010.

The median selling price in Dearborn County was also up 3.0 percent to $131,900 in December.

Only one other southeast Indiana county showed improved home statistics in 2011. Switzerland County’s sales increase by 6.4 percent to 50 homes last year. The median sales price for the year there was $74,500, up 3.5 percent.

Ripley, Ohio, and Franklin counties all saw home sales drop when compared to 2010.

Statewide, home sales increased slightly by 0.4 percent to 57,985 units. The median sales price rose from $112,000 to $112,900.

“Local housing markets are making some progress,” said Karl Berron, chief executive officer of the realtors association.

Berron said four things need to happen for 2011’s steady growth to continue in 2012.

“One, Hoosiers must be working. Two, they must be confident in their prolonged employment. Three, qualified buyers must have access to available financing. And four, the foreclosure inventory must decrease so as to relieve that downward pressure on prices,” he said.
