(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Several area students are being recognized for using their artistic abilities to promote a cleaner Ohio River.
The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission announced the winners of its 2012 River Sweep poster contest on Thursday.
Cooper High School sophomore Jessica Dunham, of Florence, was named the Grand Prize Runner-up, second only to an entry from Zeke Freshour, a senior at Ripley High School in Sandyville, West Virginia.
Other local finalists included:
6th Grade Winner - Brennan Schaefer, of Union, Villa Madonna Academy
5th Grade Winner – Leah Wright, of Moores Hill, St. Mary’s Catholic School
4th Grade Winner – Lainey Renaker, of Florence, Immaculate Heart of Mary
3rd Grade Winner – Kaitlin Bucher, of Cleves, Charles T. Young Elementary

The 2012 River Sweep will take place June 16 in communities all along the Ohio River from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Cairo, Illinois.
