(Vevay, Ind.) - There are five Historic Fire Bells in the Town of Vevay.
All five bells recently received a facelift thanks to a restoration project by Jeff-Craig Fire Department. Mike Danner stepped in to revitalize the project amid deteriorating conditions of the bells.
Paul Parsons and Thomas Dawson completed pressure washing, while Brandon Shirmer applied new paint to fire bell apparatuses.
The Historic Fire Bells of Vevay were the town's original public fire alarm system, dating back to 1895. They were used until 1935 when electric sirens replaced the bells as the town's primary fire warning system.
The bells are placed at Switzerland County Public Library, Jeff-Craig Fire Department, Switzerland County Historical Museum, the intersection of Union and Pike, and at Main and Tell streets.
