(Ripley County, Ind.) - The Ripley County Community Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Dale & Sandra Dickey Scholarship. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to a deserving member of the Batesville High School band who plays a brass instrument, with preference given to a trumpet player.

Sandra Dickey established this scholarship in memory of her husband, Dale, with the intention of offsetting the cost of a college degree and to ensure their love for music continues to be a priority in the community.

“Supporting higher education is an investment in the future of Ripley County,” said Amy Streator, Executive Director of the Ripley County Community Foundation. “Educated individuals contribute significantly to our community's economic growth and overall well-being. We are deeply thankful to donors like Sandra who recognize the importance of supporting local students' pursuits to obtain an advanced degree.”

Dale was a member of the Batesville High School choir and a trumpet player in band, under the direction of Bess Bartling. Dale graduated in 1965 and continued his education at Southern Ohio College. He joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam. After his military service, Dale had a successful 40-year career in sales, winning salesman of the year several times.

Sandra graduated in 1970 from Jac-Cen-Del High School where she participated in choir and marched with the band as a majorette and flag corps member. She fostered the love of music in young children while owning Jack and Jill Preschool. Sandra introduced her students to the Nutcracker Ballet and instructed them to perform for Christmas as a gift to their parents and Santa. This instilled a special lifelong memory in her students.

“I created this fund to ensure that Dale and my love for music would continue to be a priority in our schools and community,” stated Sandra Dickey.
