(Warsaw, Ky.) - Twenty-two new jobs are planned at a pet food manufacturing plant coming to Warsaw. Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announced Thursday that FreshChoice Complete Diet Products is planning to move into a former food processing plant on East Main Street in Warsaw. The company is making a $2 million investment in the project. “Kentucky prides itself on having quality businesses that create quality products,” Beshear said. “Today, we can add FreshChoice to that list. I want to thank FreshChoice for choosing Kentucky to grow its business, and I look forward to seeing the company’s products in retail and pet supply stores throughout the country.” FreshChoice is a relatively new company, founded in 2010. It develops fresh-raw pet foods specifically formulated for captive lions and tigers in zoos across the U.S. The company’s relationship with a meat supplier in Warsaw encouraged it to build its first pet food and treats plant in Kentucky, the governor’s office said. “Today, pet parents are looking for foods with high-quality ingredients for their four-legged companions, and FreshChoice was developed to meet increased consumer demand for premium, natural pet nutrition,” said Andrew Bullock, president and CEO of FreshChoice. “Dogs and cats are best fed as carnivores, and our new plant in Warsaw will have innovative capabilities to make fresh and raw products that pets need for optimal nourishment. We’ll also have the infrastructure and capacity for sustained growth.” Warsaw mayor Charlie French said he strongly supports the project and expects it to have a positive economic development effect on the small Ohio River city. The project is getting tax assistance in the form of incentives reaching up to $220,000 in income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
