One Killed During Three Vehicle Collision In Boone County

The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. yesterday.

(Boone Co., Ky.) - One person is dead following an accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 42 and Fowlers Lane yesterday evening.

On Wednesday, just after 6:00 p.m., Boone County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the scene of a three vehicle traffic collision with injuries.

During the initial investigation, it was found that a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder, operated by Gary Grindley, 64, of Union, KY, was heading southbound on U.S. Highway 42 attempting a left turn into Kroger’s. When Gindley realized the entrance was closed, he attempted to make an improper right turn to Fowlers Lane while traveling across the straight southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 42. While making the right turn, Grindley struck a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Jacob Trapp, 23, of Burlington, KY, traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 42 in the left lane.

The collision caused Grindley’s vehicle to skid through the intersection and hit another vehicle stopped on Fowlers Lane at a red light.

Trapp was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital Florence by Union EMS where he was ultimately pronounced dead.

There were no other injuries sustained during the accident.

The accident continues to be under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Alcohol and drug impairment do not appear to be factors at this point. However, speeding by the motorcycle is considered a factor based upon multiple eyewitness accounts.

No charges have been filed, and all individuals involved are cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

Next of kin have been notified.
