OA Raises $1,500 for Honduras Adopt-a-Village Project

This week, OA will present a check to the St. Marys' Greensburg team.

(Oldenburg, Ind.) - Oldenburg Academy is pleased to announce the success of its recent fundraising efforts during Catholic Schools Week.

The OA community collected funds to contribute to the construction of 52 single-dwelling homes in the village of Cucuyagua, Honduras. The Adopt-a-Village project, spearheaded by St. Marys' Church in Greensburg, strives to make a lasting impact on the lives of families in need.

OA’s Campus Ministry Director Mrs. Debbie Gregg organized the school-wide competition “A Change for Change,” which aimed to illustrate the large impact that can be made from small contributions. Throughout the week, students and staff could add change to designated grade-level jars. By week’s end, the sophomore class emerged as the winner of the fundraising competition, and OA had raised an impressive $1500, demonstrating the school’s collective commitment to making a difference.

"It is always delightful to witness the spirit of giving within our OA community as we endeavor to be Christ to others,” said Debbie Gregg. “As St. Francis reminded us, ‘It is in giving that we receive.’ We are blessed to be part of this Honduras project, which is in coalition with St. Mary's and Food for the Poor.”

This week, OA will present a check to the St. Marys' Greensburg team leading the Adopt-a-Village project.

“As a Catholic school community, we are called to help met the needs of others both locally and globally,” added Annette Hunger, President of Oldenburg Academy. “As such, partnering with a local parish to help a community in another country was a perfect fit.”

The fundraising effort exemplifies the spirit of generosity and compassion that defines the OA community.
