Newsletter: Franklin Co. Commissioners Decry Golf Course Rumors

Brook Hill Golf Course and surrounding homes could be annexed into the Town of Brookville, but only if enough residents approve.

Brook Hill Golf Course.

(Brookville, Ind.) - Franklin County Commissioners are complaining that the Town of Brookville is not sharing enough information about the possible annexation of the Brook Hill Golf Course and nearby homes.

The course’s current owner is planning to shut it down and sell off the land in parcels. A citizens group has formed to take temporary ownership of the golf course, with hopes that the town will eventually buy  and operate it.

Town annexation of the golf course and a number of surrounding homes has been put forth as an option if the town were to purchase the privately-owned course.

The Franklin County Observer newsletter reports that Franklin County Commissioner Tom Wilson commented during a commissioners meeting March 5 that rumors about the golf course plan have “skyrocketed.”

"I have seen no numbers set in concrete from anybody, not even a map," said Wilson.

Homeowners in the golf course area are said to be split on whether they would submit to a voluntary annexation needed for the town to buy and operate Brook Hill. County officials would not be able to stop a voluntary annexation approved by enough of the affected residents.

Commissioners have previously agreed not to oppose a town annexation.

"If the town buys a business like this, that is not doing well...it's kind of a bad precedent to start. I'm not opposed. If they just want to buy the golf course, I don't have a problem with that. I don't have a dog in the fight," said commissioner Gerald Wendel.
