New Guidelines Announced For Annual Rising Sun Postcard Contest

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Attention photographers! The Ohio County Convention, Tourism and Visitors Commission (Rising Sun/Ohio County Tourism) announce their upcoming annual Photography Postcard Contest. The event is free to enter and entrants need not be residents of Ohio County to participate.

This year’s contest guidelines have been changed. Only identifiable subjects located within the Rising Sun/Ohio County limits are eligible for the contest. For example, images that contain recognizable buildings, events, activities, landscapes, landmarks, and scenery, etc. that is notable to Rising Sun/Ohio County area will be accepted. 

With the MS Lucky Lady ferry boat now in service, entries photographed from the vessel and/or the Rabbit Hash, KY, side that depict views of Rising Sun/Ohio County will be admitted. Rides on Rising Star Casino Resort’s ferry are now free year-around.

Amateur and professional photographers are welcome. Photographers must be age 13-years-old and up and can reside locally or out-of-state. Only photographs that are at least 300dpi or higher will be accepted. Three entries per photographer are permitted. Digital entries only. No printed entries are required. Submissions under 300 dpi are unusable and will be disqualified.

Subjects taken within the last two years and capture the scenic beauty, historical landmarks, and events of Rising Sun/Ohio County are eligible. Entries must not have been previously submitted to the annual photography postcard contest.

Entries will be accepted between August 5 and August 22, 2019 by e-mail or CD. CDs can be dropped off to the Rising Sun/Ohio County Visitors Center at 217 n. Walnut Street in Rising Sun during normal business hours. Entries can be mailed to the Visitors Center at PO Box 112, Rising Sun, IN, 47040.

Submissions entered prior to August 5 or after August 22 will not be considered. Mailed entries must arrive by August 22. It is the responsibility of the photographer to verify that all entries have been received.

E-mailed digital files should be sent to both jodie@enjoyrisingsun.com and kendal@enjoyrisingsun.com. CDs will not be returned.

Entrants should include their name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, photo title (if applicable) and a description of each photo with their entry.

Photographs will be professionally judged, and then later added to the Rising Sun/Ohio County Tourism Facebook page where the public can vote for one People’s Choice Award winner.

At least $1000 in cash prizes will be awarded, with one entry submitted entry featured on a Ohio County Tourism billboard in 2020. A minimum of four winners will be selected to have their work made into postcards to promote Rising Sun/Ohio County. A Mayor’s Choice Award will also be selected by the Rising Sun Mayor. Only images submitted in a horizontal format will be considered for the billboard.

All entrants must agree that their submitted images may be used to promote Rising Sun/Ohio County. Winning images may be used in various printed and/or on-line promotions without additional compensation. Rights to all images remain the property of the individual photographers.

Entries will be on display at the Rising Sun/Ohio County Tourism Visitors Center located at 217 N. High Street in Rising Sun after judging. An awards reception will be held on Friday, September 20 from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
