Navy Bean Fall Festival Happens This Weekend in Rising Sun

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The 35th annual Navy Bean Fall Festival begins Friday, September 16 at 3:00 p.m. in downtown Rising Sun. Along with the featured attraction of navy beans and cornbread along the riverfront, the event includes amusement rides, vendors, strolling performers, costumed characters, and live bands on both days.

Admission is free and open to the public. There is a $25 charge per day charge for amusement ride wristbands.

Amusement rides and vendors open Friday at 3:00 p.m., along with navy beans and cornbread sales beginning along the riverfront. Taking the stage from 6:00-8:00 p.m. will be The Other Guys. The Indiana Mud Bugs perform from 8:00-10:00 p.m. Guests should bring their own lawn chairs.

Saturday’s festivities begin with the Navy Bean Fall Festival parade at 10:30 a.m. This year’s grand marshal is Peg Dickson, the recently retired director of the Ohio County Community Foundation in Rising Sun.

Line-up for the parade is at the boat ramp located at the end of Maiden Lane. The route moves the parade onto Poplar St., turning left onto Second St., making a right on Walnut St., and then concluding on Rising Star Drive near Rising Star Casino Resort.

The Festival reopens at noon on Saturday, September 17 with amusement rides and navy bean and cornbread sales.

Costumed characters will be at the festival site on Saturday from noon until 1:00 p.m. A magic show takes place from 1:00-1:45 p.m. An exotic animal petting zoo opens from 1:00-6:00 p.m., while strolling performers will be throughout the festival area from 2:00-6:00 p.m.

Saturday’s live bands begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pandora Effect until 4:00 p.m.; Joker’s Wild from 4:00-6:00 p.m.; Still Kick’N from 6:00-8:00 p.m.; and Kristin Kabbes & The Skallywags from 8:00-10:00 p.m.
