(Cincinnati, Oh.) - After 27 seasons with the program, Mount St. Joseph University head football coach Rod Huber is putting away the whistle. Huber announced his retirement on Thursday. "I can't thank our players, coaches, alumni, and administration enough for allowing me to serve as the head coach of the Mount football program," Huber said. "We have come so far in every facet of the program, and I am proud of the tremendous amount of success we have had." The school’s announcement said Huber was leaving the coaching gig to pursue other professional interests. No specifics were offered. Huber began as an assistant at The Mount in 1990, and has been head coach since 2000. His head coaching record stands at 106-68. He has developed the NCAA Division III Lions football program into a perennial contender in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The team has made the NCAA DIII playoffs five times. "We appreciate the many contributions coach Huber has made to the Mount's football program, our athletic department and Mount St. Joseph University," MSJ athletic director Steve Radcliffe said. "His teams' achievements are surpassed only by his love of the game and commitment to the Mount football program." Mount St. Joseph University is beginning to search for a new head football coach. Assistant Tyler Hopperton will serve as interim head coach in the meantime. The Lions finished the 2016 season with a 6-4 record.
