(Milan, Ind.) - On November 8, Ripley County Community Foundation celebrated their Day of Giving.

Milan Community School Corporation was a recipient of one of the many grants given out.

The $5,000 grant will be used to offer Milan School staff, student body, and community life-saving skills through CPR, AED, and First Aid training.

Milan Health Services Coordinator and Elementary School Nurse, Tammy Jutzi, believes that it is important to get the whole school involved. Having more individuals trained with life-saving skills will provide more help in an event of an emergency situation on a school campus or even out in the community.

Prior to this grant, certified staff received training and certification from the American Heart Association for CPR/AED training every two years, which required a community partner to provide equipment.

This grant will allow the proper equipment to be bought and allow Tammy Jutzi and Amber Knueven, a school nurse, to receive AHA Instructor Certifications to train our staff, allowing us to keep all professional development time in house.

"Along with staff trainings and offering the course to community outreach programs, we will incorporate the new equipment into the already taught health curriculum of our 8th grade students and possibly high schoolers as well. We are looking forward to the many opportunities this grant will provide to our students, staff and community members." says Jutzi.
