Memorial Day Services Scheduled Throughout The Tri-State

Here is a list of local Memorial Day observances around the tri-state. If there is a Memorial Day service in the area that is not listed please send the information to our Contact Us page.     SUNDAY, MAY 24   Bright, Indiana – A ceremony will be held at the Gibson Cemetery on Stateline Road at 12:15 p.m. Organized by the churches of Bright, American Legion Post 199, VFW Duwel Post 7570, and AMVETS Post 13. Grave sites of soldiers dating back to the Revolutionary War will be decorated with an American flag.   Dillsboro, Indiana - Northcutt-Laaker American Legion Post 292 will perform Memorial Day Services at 1:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery, and 3:00 p.m. at St. John Cemetery in Farmer's Retreat. Veterans graves will be marked with American flags.     MONDAY, MAY 25   Aurora, Indiana - Service at the Riverview Cemetery starting at 11:00 a.m. Featuring Korean War Veterans, Chapter 4 of Aurora.   Batesville, Indiana - Four ceremonies will be held with a short prayer by VFW Chaplain Tom Williams, followed by three volleys of fire, then the playing of “Taps.” The schedule of cemeteries: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 8 a.m.; St. John’s United Church of Christ, Huntersville, 8:30 a.m.; St. Louis Catholic Church, 9 a.m.; Batesville United Methodist Church, 9:30 a.m.   Brookville, Indiana - The 97th annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at the St. Michael Catholic Church Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. The parade will end at the Maple Grove Cemetery where “Taps” will be played and a 21-gun salute.   Florence, Kentucky - Parade starts at Boone County High School at 10:00 a.m. The parade will go down Burlington Pike/KY 18 onto Ewing Boulevard to the Florence Government Center. Program begins at 11 a.m.   Harrison, Ohio - Memorial Day ceremony at Glen Haven Cemetery starting at 10:00 a.m. A parade will follow. A second parade will happen on State Route 128 in Maimitown ending with services at the local cemetery on SR 128.   Lawrenceburg, Indiana - There will be a Memorial Day parade at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Lawrenceburg, followed by a ceremony at Greendale Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to come and pay their respects to all our veterans.   Rising Sun, Indiana - Memorial Day parade with start at 10:00 a.m. followed by a ceremony at the Ohio County Courthouse at 10:30 a.m.  American Legion Past Department Commander Dick Jewell will be the guest speaker. Lunch will be served after the ceremony at America Legion Post 59.  Post Commander Roger Jones invites everyone to attend the parade, ceremony, and lunch.   St. Leon, Indiana - American Legion Post 464 will have several services at area cemeteries beginning with a Memorial Day mass at St. Joseph Church at 8:00 a.m.  Cemetery route: State Road 46 at 8:20 a.m.; St. Jacob Church at 8:35 a.m.; St. Peters' mass at 9:00 a.m.; Klemmes Corner North at 9:45 a.m.; Southgate at 10:00 a.m.; Big Cedar at 10:25 a.m.; Cedar Grove at 10:55 a.m.; Mt. Pleasant at 2:30 p.m.; and Harrison at 3:00 p.m.  The final stop will be at the old Sunman family cemetery around 3:30 p.m.   Sunman, Indiana - Service at the St. Paul United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m.  The United Methodist Women will be serving a roast beef dinner beginning at 11:00 a.m.  The menu also includes mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, various salads, and homemade pie. Freewill offerings with carry-outs at $9.  For further information call 1-812-623-2382. The public is invited to each or both of the events.   Versailles, Indiana - The Versailles American Legion Post 173 will host a Memorial Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. The route starts at the legion hall and continues to Cliff Hill Cemetery, where there will be a memorial service. A second memorial service will follow at the Ripley County Courthouse Memorial.   Vevay, Indiana - Vevay, Indiana – A Memorial Day service will be held at the Veterans Monument outside of the Switzerland County Courthouse starting at 11:30 a.m.  In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Historic Hoosier Theater on Ferry Street. Indiana State Representative Randy Frye will be the guest speaker.  Following the ceremony everyone attending is invited to a light lunch at the American Legion Post on Ferry Street.
