(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Sentencing has been handed down following a September 2025 theft from an Aurora business.

Richard North was sentenced on March 17 to two and a half years following his conviction for Theft (Level 6 Felony).

The conviction stems from an incident on September 14, 2025, in which North unlawfully took retail merchandise from Hibbett Sports in Aurora. Evidence presented showed the offense involved forced entry into the store during early morning hours and the theft of merchandise valued at $2,840.00.

The case proceeded to a jury trial in February where North was found guilty of theft, and not guilty on a burglary charge. At the sentencing hearing, the Court noted the defendant’s extensive criminal history spanning decades and multiple states, as well as his failure to accept responsibility for his actions

As part of his sentencing, North must pay restitution in the amount $2,840.
