Visitation will be held this evening in Dillsboro

(Dillsboro, Ind.) - The Dillsboro community is mourning the passing of Mary Lou Powers.
The longtime community servant passed away on Sunday at the age of 83.
Powers was a longtime employee at Dillsboro State Bank, totaling 48 years of service including 20 years as the branch manager for Dillsboro and Moores Hill locations.
She was very involved in her community as a member of Dillsboro Town Council in 2001, including several years as council president. Powers also held seats on various committees such as the Dillsboro Civic Club for more than 50 years, Dillsboro Zoning and Planning Commission, Ross Foundation Board of Directors, Beautification of Dillsboro, Dillsboro Volunteer Life Squad, Oakdale Cemetery Board, and Dillsboro Main Street.
She was Dillsboro's Outstanding Citizen in 1978 and she earned a Golden Hoosier Award in 2016 for her community service. Powers was selected of a Woman of Distinction in 2014 and was inducted into the South Dearborn Academic and Career Hall of Fame in 2014.
Powers was the Dillsboro High School Valedictorian in 1960.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home in Dillsboro. A rosary service will be held prior to visitation at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be given in honor of Mary Lou to Oakdale Cemetery Endowment Fund, PAWS of Dearborn County, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
