Lawrenceburg Utility Service Board Talks New LMU Director, Lease Agreement With Proximo

This meeting was held on Monday, June 15.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - At Monday night's meeting, the Lawrenceburg Utility Service Board discussed some of the ongoing happenings in the city including hiring a new LMU Director and a lease agreement between the LMU and Proximo.

Utility Director

The City of Lawrenceburg is coming closer to hiring a new Utility Director.

This week, nine individuals will be interviewed for the position that became vacant earlier this year.

From the 46 initial applicants to the final nine, these candidates have come from across the country to fulfill this opening at LMU.

11 candidates were first chosen to interview; however, two dropped out.

Councilman Justin Noppert and Mayor Kelly Mollaun have high hopes that this interview process will provide the clarity needed to make a decision in the near future.

Lease Agreement

A proposed lease agreement between Proximo Distillery, LLC and Lawrenceburg Municipal Utilities was approved by the Lawrenceburg Utility Service Board to allow the distillery full use of the lot across the street near Durbin Bowl.

Del Weldon read the terms of the agreement which includes a termination agreement of either side with a 60 day notice. This lease was offered to Proximo for $1,000 per month, totalling $12,000 per year.

It was explained that this transaction is permissible through LMU due to the fact that the lot's purpose will not be changed while use by the distillery, which will allow for LMU to generate additional revenue through an Utility Service Board asset.

This agreement comes after Proximo had been using this lot and taking care of the upkeep.

"I was back there yesterday and it is as clean as a whistle. It has new gravel, compacted, almost like concrete. It is just beautiful. Everything is cleaned up," said Noppert.

The City of Lawrenceburg has been allowing the distillery to use the lot free of charge in the past, but had recently agreed to a new lease agreement.

"Sounds like a win, win to me," says Tony Abbott.
