Lawrenceburg City Court Takes On West Harrison Code Violations

The city and the town are entering an agreement to prosecute West Harrison code and traffic violations.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Lawrenceburg’s City Court will take on traffic and code violators from yet another local municipality.

Lawrenceburg Common Council voted unanimously Monday to approve an interlocal agreement with the Town of West Harrison.

Under the agreement, Lawrenceburg City Court will overtake hearing and collections of fines for building and safety code violations, as well as traffic tickets, according to Lawrenceburg City Attorney Del Weldon. West Harrison officials and law enforcement will still originate citations against violators.

Joseph Johns is the City Court Judge. Weldon said Johns is alright with the addition of West Harrison cases.

“The work that Skylar, Kristin, Judge Johns, and Carl and Diane do at your direction is just so effective,” Weldon told council. “It is within their capabilities. They are able to hear these cases and generate money. It also does a great service to our county judges, taking away a good portion of what they would have to do in terms of traffic tickets and traffic infractions.”

Lawrenceburg City Court already handles fines and hearings for code violations and traffic tickets in Dearborn County and some of its other towns, such as Dillsboro.
