(Cincinnati, Oh.) - Lauren Hill not only met her $1 million fundraising goal with time to spare, but blew past it during Tuesday’s city-wide telethon for The Cure Starts Now Foundation. The 19-year-old from Greendale battling terminal brain cancer earlier this month set a New Years Day deadline to raise $1 million to research a cure for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, the form of terminal brain cancer that she has been stricken with. During the telethon broadcast on all four Cincinnati major network television stations, an anonymous donor contributed a single $116,000 donation to Lauren Hill’s tribute fund. The Lawrenceburg American Legion also contributed $13,000 from a #Layup4Lauren Challenge they hosted December 14. Those donations along with about 3,400 others made throughout the day pushed the total to $1.159 million. "She is goal driven, so now she can rest knowing she played a huge role in the fight against DIPG. Tonight at dinner she said 'today was one of the best days ever,'" a message posted by Lauren's family on Lauren's Fight for Cure Facebook page read. You can still make a donation in honor of Lauren Hill to The Cure Starts Now Foundation by visiting www.Layup4Lauren.org through Wednesday. Hill also had the opportunity to visit with the Harlem Globetrotters as they were playing at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
