(Walton, Ky.) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office advises motorists work will soon begin to add an additional dedicated left turning lane to the Interstate 75 southbound exit 171 ramp to Mary Grubbs Highway (KY 14/16) in Walton (mile points 171.3 – 171.54).
Once complete, the ramp will have two left turning lanes and one right turning lane. This will ease congestion and provide for the safe and efficient movement of traffic through the interchange.
Both lanes on the I-75 southbound exit ramp to Mary Grubs Highway will remain open for the majority of the project. One lane may be temporarily closed to allow for striping and barrier wall placement on Sunday, Sept. 8, during overnight hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
A large-scale reconstruction project for the Walton interchange is currently in the design process. More details on this project can be found on the project website. Comments are currently being accepted on the project website through Tuesday, Sept. 24.
KYTC awarded the $392,005 contract to Eaton Asphalt Paving Co. Weather permitting, the overall project is expected to be complete by mid-November 2024. Motorists are asked to slow down and watch for workers in work zones.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur
