Indiana Has New Vaccination Requirements For Students

Students in K through 7th and 12th grades must receive two doses of the hepatitis A vaccine.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The Indiana State Department of Health is reminding parents of vaccine requirements as kids head back to school.

Some of the necessary vaccines have changed.  Most notably, students from kindergarten to seventh grade along with 12th graders are required to get two doses of the hepatitis A vaccine. Two doses of the hep A vaccination are recommended for all other grads.

“It’s important to make sure your child’s vaccinations are up-to-date, not only to keep them healthy, but also to prevent the spread of disease to family members and others,” said State Health Commissioner Kris Box, MD, FACOG.

Other recommended vaccinations include the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and an annual flu shot. Two doses of the meningococcal serogroup B (MenB) vaccine is recommended for students entering grade 12 and is required by some Indiana universities for incoming students.

A complete list of Indiana school immunization requirements is available at www.state.in.us/isdh/17094.htm. The requirements and recommendations align with the routine vaccination schedules from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

You can access your immunization records through MyVaxIndiana.in.gov.
