Free health screenings will be offered at the Women’s Expo.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Highpoint Health is presenting its second annual Women’s Health & Wellness Expo on Thursday, October 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lawrenceburg Event Center, 91 Walnut Street.  The Expo, which is free of charge and open to the public, will feature a variety of health screenings and informational exhibits for women age 18 and older.

Free health screenings offered at the Women’s Expo include blood pressure, body mass index, anemia, diabetes/blood sugar, total and HDL cholesterol and pulmonary function.

New this year is a three part screening that assists in the detection of vascular disease, a leading cause of death in the United States. The screening includes checks for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA), Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and Carotid Artery Stenosis (stroke risk). A six hour fast is recommended for the most accurate results.  The screening, which is pain free and noninvasive, will be offered at a special event price of $29.  A limited number of screenings will be available at the Expo or you can get the special pricing by scheduling an appointment at the event.

“This annual event is designed to make women more aware of how they can maintain good health through disease prevention and overall wellness.  Last year was enjoyable, as well as educational, for everyone who attended.  We expect even greater participation this year,” stated Nancy Kennedy, M.D., Highpoint Health Chief Medical Officer.

Information and additional resources will be available regarding aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, bone health, cancer, diabetes, elder care, endocrinology, genetic testing, heart disease, menopause management, mental health, nutrition, prenatal care, stroke prevention, substance abuse and weight management.

In addition to screenings and health information, the Expo will feature a boutique highlighting local vendors and their products.  Local community centers will be present to inform women about their health and fitness opportunities.  Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the event.

The Highpoint Health Women’s Health & Wellness Expo is held in cooperation with the annual Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce Women of Distinction Luncheon. Each year, the luncheon celebrates the contributions women have made to Dearborn County and recognizes honorees for their specific achievements.
