“Highpoint Health is taking every necessary precaution to keep our patients and community safe.”

(Dearborn Co., Ind.) - Highpoint Health confirms that a patient has tested positive for COVID-19. The Dearborn County Health Department has been notified. To protect patient privacy, no other patient details will be provided. Our physicians, nurses, and staff are continuing to take appropriate precautions to protect all patients, visitors, employees, and the community.

Highpoint Health is well prepared to treat COVID-19 patients. Its internal task force meets every day to discuss patient care, quality measures, supplies, logistics, and emergency management procedures. The hospital follows the Indiana State Department of Health COVID-19 testing protocol and the Centers for Disease Control guidelines.

“Highpoint Health is taking every necessary precaution to keep our patients and community safe,” said Michael Schwebler, President/CEO of Highpoint Health. “We are here for the community but need everyone’s help and support as we work through this together. Please stay at home, practice social distancing, wash your hands, and cover your cough. I know you’ve heard all of this many times before, but following these guidelines are our best defense against COVID-19.”

A positive COVID-19 case in our community does not change the message. If you have mild respiratory symptoms and a fever, please self-monitor your condition and stay at home. Take your temperature twice a day and remain alert for cough or difficulty breathing. Eighty percent of people who have minor symptoms don’t require any medical care at all. Please do not come to the Emergency Department if you have mild or moderate symptoms. Doing so displaces other patients who truly need emergency care and also increases your risk of infection. If your symptoms should worsen, stay at home and call your healthcare provider to determine next steps.

Please call the hospital’s dedicated line, 812-537-8210, staffed by our highly-trained medical professionals, if you have questions about COVID-19.
