Greendale Mayor Shares Highlights of 2024, Plans for 2025

Some exciting things are happening in Greendale.

(Greendale, Ind.) - In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Greendale Mayor Vince Karsteter essentially gave a State of the City address.

Mayor Karsteter highlighted the accomplishments of 2024 and shared exciting plans and projects that lie ahead in 2025.

Last year, Greendale saw several significant upgrades including improvements to the basketball courts and the paving of Schnebelt Pond walkway. Construction of six new pickleball courts and a news tennis court at Greendale Park is also in the works.

Mayor Karsteter added that the Greendale Redevelopment Commission signed an agreement projected to generate over $7 million in tax revenues over the next 25 years. A majority of the funds are expected to be committed to the Greendale Beautification Funda at the Dearborn Community Foundation. The funding helps with cleaning homes and facade improvements for Greendale residents.

In 2024, St. Elizabeth Dearborn’s state-of-the-art Cancer Center opened in Greendale. St. Elizabeth will expand their Greendale campus with the building of a new hospital, which is expected to break ground in March.

With the support of a 2024 READI Grant, a $36 million apartment complex will go up in 2025. It is expected to have 176 units. Another $17 million will be invested for the building of an 88-room Hilton Home2 Suites adjacent to the Greendale Cinema.

Other plans for 2025 include upgrading or replacing the city’s current water plant, addressing traffic concerns at Belleview, U.S. 50 and I-275 intersection, and exploring options for over-55 housing developments and affordable senior housing.

Improvements are also expected on lower Ridge Avenue after One Dearborn County secured a $2.7 million grant through the Stellar Pathways program.
