Friendship State Bank Announces Opening Of The Sherman Biergarten

(Friendship, Ind.) - Friendship State Bank and HPH Hospitality announce the opening of The Sherman Biergarten located at 16 E. George Street in Batesville around the corner from the main entrance of The Sherman. “The opening of an authentic German Biergarten was the crown jewel of three phases of our original renovation plans,” as noted by Tom Pratt of HPH. “Early on we recognized the need to establish a biergarten venue to round off The Sherman. We also thought it was important to bring a new entertainment dimension to the whole of Batesville and surrounding communities to help ensure long-term growth and success.” Like Biergartens in Germany, The Sherman’s is designed to cater to families. All ages are welcome to come and stay a while without being bothered that food or drinks need to be ordered. “This is a place to hangout, meet friends and listen to music,” explained Georg Heringer of HPH Hospitality. “As a native Bavarian, I have witnessed the important role biergartens play in the social fabric of communities. They are instrumental in bringing friends and family together where life-long bonds are formed and nurtured. We wanted Batesville to have that point of attraction.” The opening of the Biergarten completes the third renovation phase of the former Sherman House, now “The Sherman.” The first phase involved the comprehensive renovation of the first-floor restaurant, the new Black Forest Bar, and the Boehringer Hall banquet space as well as the overhaul of the large kitchen that supports all three and now also the biergarten. The first floor opened in February 2017. Phase II covered the massive undertaking of renovating all 22 hotel guest rooms including replacing all the electrical and plumbing systems, installation of new floors and bathrooms, new tiling and painting from head to toe.
