(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Charges were filed on Wednesday against former Lawrenceburg High School teacher Elizabeth Schwarz.
Schwarz is charged with two counts of Child Seduction, a Class D Felony and a Level 6 Felony.
According to Prosecutor Lynn Deddens, Lawrenceburg Police were called to the Lawrenceburg School Administration building on January 28, where they were notified that an employee had received a message from a former student who claimed that they had been groomed and had an inappropriate relationship with a teacher in the past.
Elizabeth Schwarz was placed on paid administrative leave and days later submitted a retirement letter that was effective February 3.
The alleged victim was a student in Schwarz’s class, and a friend of Schwarz’s daughter, and alleges that in the summer of 2014, Schwarz began an inappropriate relationship with her – which allegedly continued until the summer of 2015.
“The victim alleges that at the time, she truly believed she was in a secret relationship with Schwarz. Now that she is older, she realizes how inappropriate the relationship was and is concerned this may have happened to other students,” reads a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office.
Schwarz was taken into custody on Wednesday. She will have her initial hearing in court today.
