(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Formal charges were filed today against Mohammed Mondal.

Mondal, 45, of Lawrenceburg, is charged with Murder and two counts of Neglect of a Dependent stemming from the shooting death of his wife on November 6.

Authorities say the Mondal’s were in their vehicle traveling from their Bright home to an appointment to have photos taken of their two youngest children, ages 14 months and two months, when Mohammed Mondal allegedly shot his wife, Stacy, seven times.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the shots were fired after an argument between the two. Mondal told investigators that he and his wife were experiencing marital problems and that he believed she was having an affair. He continued by saying that Stacy struck him in the head with her cell phone and then reached for a gun in the open center console, when he opened fire with a 9mm on his person.

Mondal contacted local law enforcement to report the shooting, and first stated that he had accidentally shot his wife. He then stated that he shot his wife in self-defense, and that she was struck “in the arm on the left side.”

Law enforcement responded to the area of Kilby Road and U.S. 50 to escort Mondal to St. Elizabeth Dearborn, where Stacy Mondal was pronounced dead at the age of 40.

After learning of Stacy's death, investigators say Mondal stated for the first time that she pointed the gun at him before he shot her.

An autopsy performed by the Hamilton County Coroner reported that Stacy Mondal received seven gunshot wounds, all of which entered the left arm/side/shoulder/torso of her body. The cause of death resulted from perforations to the heart, lungs, and liver.

Mondal remains housed in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center. He is expected to make his initial appearance in Dearborn County Court on Thursday.
