(Ripley County, Ind.) – Interstate 74 remains closed this morning due to a serious crash just east of Batesville.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles reports that the crash occurred on I-74 near Merkel Road and Lammers Pike around 5:30 a.m.
According to a post from Ripley County EMA, a fatality has been reported.
According to Sgt. Wheeles’ last update at 7:45, the westbound lanes of I-74 remain closed as crash reconstructionists are on the scene.
A second crash is also being investigated near the 156-mile marker, which is also backing up traffic. No injuries were reported in the second crash.
