(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A dead man’s ex-wife and new boyfriend are accused of taking the deceased’s wallet, television, and video game system after he died.

Charles Freeman was ill in his apartment on Second Street on January 1, 2019, according to a court affidavit. Freeman’s ex-wife, Heather Freeman, and her new boyfriend, Tony Meador, had been staying with Charles and his new girlfriend, Daphne Ganahl. Heather told police she provided Charles a small amount of heroin at his request.

The next day, Charles was dead. Heather called 911. She, Tony, and Daphne immediately left the home. Heather allegedly acknowledged she had an active warrant out for her arrest.

The group did not leave without Charles’ debit card. Police say they used the small amount of money available in Charles Freeman’s bank account to buy gas. They also attempted, but failed, to withdraw money using an ATM.

Police say the three later returned to Charles’ home to steal a TV and video game system. They attempted to sell the items at a pawn shop, but Heather said they were not able to.

Ganahl died of a possible drug overdose in Hamilton County, Ohio on January 30, according to the affidavit.

Meador, 44, of Versailles, and Freeman, 45, of Greensburg, were each charged in Dearborn County on February 21 with Burglary (level 4 felony), Fraud (level 6 felony), Theft (level 6 felony), and Dealing in a Narcotic Drug (Fentanyl) (level 5 felony).

Both are held in jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
