ETC Equips Schools With Security Cameras

Lawrenceburg Community Schools campuses are now being watched by 226 security cameras.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Enhanced Telecommunications (ETC) is pleased to announce the recent completion of two large-scale projects featuring a couple of unique services that are growing in popularity.

In May of this year ETC began work installing a school corporation security camera system in Lawrenceburg, and a large virtual voice phone system for the Switzerland County government.

“Both projects were two of our largest to-date for those respective products,” said Dustin Tarter, ETC’s VP of Sales & Marketing.

The security camera project involved the installation of 226 cameras across six buildings at the Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation.  More than 50,000 feet of cable was used to cover the entire campus.  That project wrapped up just in time for the 2018-19 school year. 

 “Our previous camera system was extremely outdated. (It was) analogue versus IP (internet)-based.” explained Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation Superintendent Karl Galey.  “It was hard to identify people because of the picture quality.  It was not user-friendly or accessible through a mobile platform.  We also had many blind spots throughout the corporation.”

ETC went to work installing a camera system that addressed those shortfalls.  The new internet-based, mobile-friendly system includes a variety of dome, fisheye, bullet and outdoor pan-tilt-zoom cameras, all placed in strategic locations around the campus. 

“The cameras are an added resource to our new School Resource Officers in each school building,” explained Galey.  “We plan to collaborate with our local police departments so they have access to our camera system in case of an emergency. (With the mobile app) administrators will also be able to look at things around campus or during an activity even on a weekend or while off-campus.”

Galey is confident that the cameras will help ward off potential trouble or help solve issues that could still arise. “We have significantly reduced the number of blind spots throughout the corporation which will help in identifying future issues,” noted Galey.  “Having the cameras last school year would have helped us more easily identify persons of interest in hallways and issues that happened in parking lots.”

Over in Switzerland County, ETC spent part of the early summer installing and training employees on a product of a different kind.  Switzerland County Government selected ETC to install its new Virtual Voice phone system.  Virtual Voice is a customizable, cloud-based internet phone system that allows users to easily change features, add remote users and more, all at a low, predictable cost.  The county installed 68 stations throughout the courthouse, allowing employees to easily transfer calls between offices.

“All in all, we’re very satisfied with our new virtual voice phone system,” said Gayle Rayles, Switzerland County Auditor.  “We’ve had a few growing pains, but we’re glad we made the decision to install our system with ETC.”

Likewise, Lawrenceburg Schools are happy with their camera system.

“ETC was able to recommend a good product. They took us on a site visit to show us schools where their cameras and software were being used, and provided the lowest competitive quote,” said Galey. “Their team communicated with our administrators, IT, maintenance and custodians so there was little to no interference.
