(St. Leon, Ind.) – A talented group from East Central High School is world champions!
East Central Winter Percussion took first place at the 2022 WGI Concert Class A World Championship on Friday.
According to WGI, East Central’s show “Spring Theory” captured the feelings of the four seasons by using a mix of ensemble and individual moments and a voiceover to guide the audience through the season changes.
East Central scored 93.475 to beat out second place Penn-Trafford High School (92.875) out of Harrison City, Pennsylvania. The two teams flipped spots after Penn-Trafford earned the highest score in the prelims last Thursday.
Scoring was based on musical performance and artistry.
In the finals, East Central was the top scoring team in artistry and second in music.
"The feeling of watching your students perform their hearts out and get rewarded after spending literally hundreds of hours working on their music is priceless," said Andrew Sharf, Director of Bands at ECHS. "We are so proud of them and just grateful to be a small part of their success."
It has been a banner year for East Central Percussion. Earlier this month, the won the Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) State Championship.
