(St. Leon, Ind.) - East Central High School Principal Tom Black has been selected as the new President of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Board of Directors.

The elections for next year's leadership of the Board and Executive Committees took place this week.

Mr. Black was voted as president of the 2025-26 Board of Directors.

Jeff Hamstra of Chesterton High School was elected vice president. Larry Cochren of Washington High School was named chairman of the 2025-26 Executive Committee and Jim Brown of Fishers High School was confirmed as vice chairman

The IHSAA is governed by its legislative body, the Board of Directors. Composed of 19 individuals elected by member school principals from three legislative districts, they serve staggered three-year terms. Twelve board seats are filled by any qualified individual (open seats), and seven board seats are filled by two qualified female representatives, two qualified minority representatives, two qualified urban school representatives and one qualified private school representative. The Board of Directors meets annually with the responsibility of establishing the Association’s ByLaws and regulations.

"Mr. Black's dedication to student achievement, leadership in education, and commitment to fostering athletic excellence make him an exceptional choice for this role. His impact at East Central High School has been profound, and we have no doubt he will bring the same passion and vision to the IHSAA, supporting student-athletes across the state," reads a statement from Sunman-Dearborn Schools.
