(St. Leon, Ind.) - The East Central High School Band is being recognized statewide as they’ve been awarded the prestigious Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) All-Music Award.

The award is given to high school music programs that demonstrate outstanding achievement in multiple areas of music performance.

To earn this honor, East Central had to earn gold ratings in concert band, marching band, jazz band, and solo and ensemble events.

“This award is a testament to the commitment and passion of our students and staff,” said Megan Gryspeerdt, East Central’s Director of Bands. “I could not be prouder of the musicianship, teamwork, and leadership shown by our students this year. They’ve truly embraced excellence in everything they do.”

Gryspeerdt leads the program while Percussion Director Dr. Brandon Dodge and Brea Pickett, who serves as Assistant Marching Band Director and Middle School Band Director, have both played integral roles in shaping the band’s high standards and vibrant sound.

East Central’s achievement has also received strong support from school and district leadership.

"As a former high school band member myself, I understand firsthand the impact a strong music program can have on a student’s life. This award reflects the effort, collaboration, and spirit of excellence that define East Central. Congratulations to everyone involved,” said Dr. Andrew Jackson, Superintendent of Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools.

Principal Tom Black added, "EC has a long and decorated tradition in Band, but this is the first time since 2017 that we were able to achieve the All-Music Award. We are very proud of their efforts and accomplishments."
