East Central FCCLA, FFA Chapters Create Sunman Open Door Food Pantry

A ribbon cutting will take place Saturday at Sunman Town Park.

(St. Leon, Ind.) - The East Central FCCLA and FFA chapters have joined forces to create the Sunman Open Door Food Pantry, a “give and take” pantry designed to serve the Sunman community.

The pantry will be located in the Sunman Town Park, making it easily accessible by foot for those with limited transportation. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide food, hygiene products, and essential supplies for anyone in need.

This project began as an idea from FCCLA members and 2025 East Central High School graduates Kayla and Layla Craig of Sunman. They presented their proposal to the Sunman Town Council in December 2023, where it received full approval. Working alongside the East Central FFA, the Agriculture Mechanization class built the structure that now stands ready to serve our community.

A ribbon cutting for the Sunman Open Door Food Pantry will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunman Town Park. Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate. A list of suggested items can be seen above.

The continued operation of this project will now be overseen by Annabelle Edmonds, Ellie Wolf, and Olivia Lyness, following the graduation of Kayla and Layla Craig.

The East Central Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national career and technical student organization for students in public and private schools who are studying Family and Consumer Sciences (Home Economics). FCCLA provides leadership, character, and career development opportunities through hands-on projects and community involvement that focus on strengthening families and communities.
