(Dabney, Ind.) - A Ripley County Sheriff’s deputy is being credited with possibly saving a crash victim’s life.
Saturday, May 19 at about 2:30 a.m., a Chevrolet HHR wrecked on Hopewell Road just east of Dabney. The vehicle went off the road and struck a tree, ejecting the driver, 23-year-old Bradley Snapp.
As Snapp, of Holton, lay next to the wrecked vehicle it caught fire. Luckily Deputy Steve Sullivan soon arrived. He found Snapp next to the fully engulfed wreckage and pulled him to safety.
Sullivan suffered first degree burns in the rescue. He was treated and released at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
Snapp was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati. His current condition is not known.
Police say alcohol and speed may have contributed to the crash which remains under investigation.
Sullivan was assisted at the scene by Adam Hunger, Osgood PD, Deputy Kendall Hankins of the Sheriff’s Office, Holton Fire Department, Versailles Fire Truck 61, Rescue 69 and 30, and the Ripley County Paramedics.
