(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 proactive grant to help with the revamping of the first floor of St. Mary's School into a "true" preschool.

In a continuing effort to make an impact in the Dearborn County community, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2022 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer board members recommends a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

"We are working on a lot of changes. There is a full remodel of the restrooms on the first floor with everything being installed new. There will be a brand-new playground installed outside of the school in November. There are also plans of replacing the halogen bulbs with LED lights," said Principal Randy Dennis.

"We are grateful for the generous support of the Dearborn Community Foundation as we prepare for the bright future of having an outstanding preschool here at St. Mary's."

The grant was recommended by DCF Board member John Strautman, who said St. Mary’s elementary students have transitioned to St. Lawrence school, Lawrenceburg. However, the preschool at St. Lawrence is full. The DCF grant will help to open up the preschool at St. Mary’s so Catholic education for youth can begin, he said.

“I graduated from St. Mary’s School, and I am so thankful my parents valued the quality education St. Mary’s provided. I want current children to have the opportunity to receive a similar education."

Although St. Mary’s School has closed, the flourishing parish will continue to support Catholic education at St. Lawrence School, he said.

Anyone can contribute to an unrestricted endowment at DCF and help make impact grants like the 15 DCF Board members are recommending in 2022.
