(Aurora, Ind.) - An Aurora city councilman’s wife is in trouble for allegedly stealing nearly $40,000 from a local business.
Erin Milish worked at the UPS Store in Lawrenceburg and came under investigation by Lawrenceburg Police in September, according to a court affidavit filed in Dearborn Circuit Court. The shipping store’s owner had noticed that balances in the store’s account were wrong and contacted police.
“(The owner) advised your affiant that he performed a complete store audit and found that the theft had been happening since January 2011 (estimated $38,177.24 in total theft),” the affidavit read.
During questioning by detectives, Milish admitted to signing the owner’s name on checks and cashing them, she said, with the store owners permission to do so. However, she estimated the amount to be $7,620.
Milish, 30, was arrested Tuesday on charges of Theft, Fraud on a Financial Institution, and Forgery.
She bonded out of the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $10,000 bail Tuesday. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for February 17.
Milish is married to Aurora city councilman Joe Milish, who took office this month after winning last November’s election for Council At-Large.
