(Noblesville, Ind.) - Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White will not serve any time behind bars after being convicted of six felonies, including voter fraud. 

 

White was sentenced Thursday to one year of home detention by Hamilton Superior Court Judge Steven Nation.

 

“This is a case of a person not accepting responsibility for his actions and then trying to undermine the system by accusing everybody and their brother of doing things wrong,” Prosecutor Dan Sigler said.

 

White’s defense attorney Carl Brizzi was disappointed the charges weren't dropped to misdemeanors.  

 

“Obviously we were hoping for a reduction to a misdemeanor, but the judge did not agree,” Brizzi said.

White faced the charges for using his ex-wife's address to register to vote because he didn't want to lose his position on the Fishers Town Council before being elected Secretary of State. 

 

The Indiana Supreme Court will decide who will permanently replace White as Secretary of State next week. The successor could be a person appointed by fellow Republican Governor Mitch Daniels or Democrat Vop Osili, who lost to White in the November 2010 election.
