Caucus Will Fill Vacant Switz Co. Seat

(Vevay, Ind.) - Switzerland County Democrats will soon select a new county commissioner.

Robbie Smith died of suicide November 3 at his East Enterprise home. The 42-year-old had been elected a Switzerland County Commissioner as a Democrat in November 2010.

With the vacancy on the commission, the county Democrat party will caucus this evening to select a replacement for Smith. The public caucus begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Switzerland County Courthouse in Vevay.

The replacement selected by the county’s 12 Democrat Precinct Committee members will finish out Smith’s term, which runs through 2014.

Smith was a dispatcher with the Switzerland County Sheriff's Department for 23 years.
