(Batesville, Ind.) - Genesis: Pathways to Success continued A Summer of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) with Mosaic Mastery: Art Camp held at Batesville High School. Six students spent three days learning about mosaics and completing their very own work of art!

The first day of camp kicked off with outlining, designing, and prepping for mosaics. Campers drew out what they pictured their mosaic to look like and began selecting what colors they wanted to use. With guidance from Batesville art teacher Kyle Hunteman, who cut the glass into shapes that matched each camper’s mosaic design, the group carefully arranged their pieces and began gluing them into place.

“My favorite part was seeing how the glass pieces form a picture. I had no idea what I was gonna make, and I liked the process of letting my imagination guide me” Halle Wendell, incoming 8th grader at Batesville Middle School.

Day two of camp was all about bringing ideas to life. Campers spent most of the day carefully securing each piece of their mosaic masterpiece, while also exploring a few creative side projects like painting. As their mosaics dried, they grabbed some watercolors and let their imaginations run wild.

The last day of Mosaic Mastery camp wrapped up with grouting and cleaning. Campers learned why grouting is essential and got hands-on experience applying it to their mosaics. Afterward, they cleaned up their creations with care and left them to dry, ready to show off their finished masterpieces!

Genesis: Pathways To Success would like to thank Andrea Grimsley, Kyle Hunteman, and Mary Mattingly for volunteering their time at Mosaic Mastery: Art Camp and fostering a creative outlet for campers. We would also like to thank Batesville High School for allowing us to host camp at their facility and Margaret Mary Health for providing lunch.
