(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - There will be jailtime for an Osgood man who robbed a bank customer, but didn’t exactly make a smooth getaway.
Shawn Gorth, 26, snatched money from a man using the drive-through ATM at the Fifth Third Bank at Dearborn Plaza on Eads Parkway-U.S. 50 in Lawrenceburg last June.
As Gorth was running away, he was followed by the victim, Gerald Westfall, of Tennessee. As Westfall pulled out into Doughty Road, his car was struck by a passing truck. The impact sent Westfall’s car into Gorth.
Gorth was injured. He was hospitalized then arrested by Lawrenceburg Police.
As part of a negotiated plea agreement reached Thursday, February 9 in Dearborn Superior Court II, Gorth agreed to plead guilty to a charge of Robbery (Class C felony) while a charge of Theft (Class D felony) would be dismissed.
Gorth was sentenced to eight years, with four years suspended to probation. He receives good time credit for 376 days already served in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
He must also pay $600 restitution to the robbery victim.
