(Hanover, Ind.) – Authorities at Hanover College are investigating two reports of assault involving the same student as the victim each time.
The two incidents happened to a female student on two occasions - one on-campus and another off-campus - late last month.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Hanover Police, and campus security are investigating. There are currently no suspects.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Detective Keith Hartman says investigators are still working to determine if, in fact, the assaults actually took place.
"She was alone, there was no one else there that witnessed the assaults. So we're trying to put the pieces together,” he said.
Regardless, Hanover College is taking the reports seriously.
“As an additional measure of safety, Campus Security will be increasing both the number of officers on duty between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. as well as increasing the frequency of patrols around campus,” said college president Dr. Sue DeWine.
At this time, law enforcement officials do not believe there is a risk of danger to the campus community, DeWine said.
Members of the Student Life staff are providing support to the female victim.
