By Mike Perleberg Robert Lee Laird. File photo. (Ripley County, Ind.) - A convicted child molester has been sentenced in Ripley County court. Robert Lee Laird was convicted during a jury trial in April of Child Molesting (level 4 felony). Laird was sentenced on June 28 to 10 years in prison by Ripley Circuit Court Judge Ryan King. Prosecutors say the 40-year-old from Lawrenceburg sexually abused a child at a Christmas party at a home in Versailles in 2015. An Indiana State Police electronic forensic analyst who testified at the jury trial said he discovered evidence that Laird planned in advance to molest the victim. Three days before the incident, he had conducted internet searches that referenced young children participating in sexually explicit acts. The victim was also forced to testify at the trial. Laird’s projected release date from prison is October 4, 2024, according to the Indiana Department of Corrections. RELATED STORIES: Ripley Co.
