Rivertown Recap: South Dearborn, Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun Claim Titles

It was a fun four days at South Dearborn HS.

(Aurora, Ind.) - The 26th annual Rivertown Classic saw three of the four competing schools take home trophies. 

Held January 7-10 at South Dearborn High School, the annual tournament featured a total of eight boys and girls basketball games and cheerleading competition. 

For the 10th year in a row, the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers claimed the championship trophy with a hard-fought, come from behind 38-36 win over Switzerland County. Aubree Labazzo led the way in the championship game with 14 points. She was named Tournament MVP for the second year in a row. 

Lawrenceburg's streak of 10 Rivertown Classic Championship in a row is a record for the tournament as a whole. Lawrenceburg's boys team has the next best streak at four in a row from 2015 to 2019. 

South Dearborn has a current streak as back-to-back Rivertown Champs. The Knights defeated Lawrenceburg 52-34 in the championship game behind 19 points from Tournament MVP Wyatt Adams. South Dearborn's win broke a tie with Lawrenceburg for the most tournament championship wins (11). 

Rising Sun won the cheerleading competition with a flawless routine. They had zero deductions. 

They've had a successful year winning the HCCA Spirit State competition back in November in now Rivertown. 

Team members are (cheer manager- Jaya Loyola) Teagan Lewis, Tifani Courter, Preslie Warner, Kenlee Ryan, Macey Halloran, Maddy Phillippe, Lizzy Mear, J'lynn Rodriguez, Bri Sams, Oakley Otter, coach Ryleigh McAlister, Charlotte Ohl, Megan Daugherty, Avery Davies, Reese Merica, Lexi Morris.

The Shiners are coached by Heather Cook and Skylar Durham.
