Record-Breakers Highlight ORVC Weekly Award Winners

Two records were broken by student-athletes from Shawe Memorial and South Ripley.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Some record-breaking performances highlighted play in the Ohio River Valley Conference last week.

The ORVC Report for January 22-27 was released on Tuesday.

Shawe Memorial’s Philip Kahn was named the ORVC Boys Basketball Player of the Week after he broke a 49-year-old school record by scoring 49 points in a loss to South Ripley. Over three games, the Hilltoppers star totaled 89 points, 11 assists, 10 steals, and five rebounds.

The ORVC Girls Basketball Players of the Week are Alyssa Simpson (Rising Sun) and Olivia Simpson (Southwestern).

Alyssa Simpson totaled 40 points, 27 rebounds, and three blocks in two games, while also shooting 12-12 from the free throw line. Olivia Simpson put up 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists, and 3 blocks against Jac-Cen-Del.

In the swimming pool, South Ripley’s Evan Eaglin earned weekly honors by setting a school record in the 50 Yard Free (23.93). Fellow Raider, Elizabeth McKittrick, joined Eaglin as a Top Performer of the Week with impressive performances in the 50 Yard Free (25.82) and 100 Yard Free (57.82).
