EC's Wingate, Switz. Co's Richards Place at Wrestling State Finals

INDIANAPOLIS - Six high school wrestling stars represented southeastern Indiana at the IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Finals. 

The two-day event was held Friday and Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis. 

Switzerland County senior Peyton Richards (#4 at 138 lbs.) made it to day two of the event, winning his first match over #9 Angelo Vargo (Jr, Penn) by Dec. 8-1. In the quarterfinals, Richards fell to #3 Tylin Thrine, of New Castle, by Dec. 4-1. Richards would go on to win his final two matches at the state finals, placing 5th at 138 pounds with a 14-3 win over #8 Donald Bowie, of Warren Central. 

East Central junior Brody Wingate (#6) also wrestled into day two of the competition at 190 pounds. Wingate defeated North Miami's Jordan Simon (#14) in the first round by TF 20-0 (5:23). Wingate fell in the quarterfinals to Boonville junior Sam Howard (#2) by MD 11-3. The Trojans' star would go on to win his final two matches, including a 5th place win over #5 Cori Tonte, of Franklin Community, by Dec. 8-5. 

Milan brothers, Mason and Matthew Baylor, both competed at the state finals. Mason, a freshman ranked 12th at 106 pounds, was defeated in the first round by #16 Gavin Longoria (So, Lowell) by fall (2:29). He finishes the season with a record of 40-2. Matthew, a senior ranked 12th at 132 pounds, fell in the first round in a tightly contested matchup with #18 Sean Harris (Jr, New Haven). Harris got the better of Baylor by a score of 4-3. Baylor ends his senior season with a record of 38-2. He ends his high school career as Milan's all-time wins leader. 

At 144 pounds, Batesville junior Adam Brewer finished the season with a 47-3 record following a first-round exit at the hands of #14 Asa Spencer (Jr, Evansville Mater Dei) by Dec. 14-8. 

In the 165-pound bracket, East Central senior Nyden Euson (#17) took on Evansville Mater Dei's Camden Baumann (#4). Euson put up a tough fight but ultimately fell 5-1 to the second-ranked wrestler in the weight class. Euson finishes his senior season with a record of 38-6.
