Conf. Champs Milan, Switz. Co. Headline 2023 ORVC Cross Country All-Conference Teams

Several ORVC runners will compete at the Shelbyville Regional on Saturday.

(Hanover, Ind.) - Twenty-four runners earned All-Conference honors in the Ohio River Valley Conference. 

In order to make the All-Conference team, runners had to finish in the top 12 at the ORVC Championship on October 7 at Hanover College. 

The 2023 Boys ORVC Cross Country All-Conference Team is highlighted by five members of Milan's conference championship winning team. The Indians dominated the conference meet with Ben Riehle, Lucas Cooney, Gabe Riehle, Ayden Potts, and Nathan Voss taking the top five spots in the race. 

Milan has enjoyed a largely dominate season that has seen them progress to Saturday's regional at Shelbyville. The Indians won Sectional 20 in a landslide last Saturday at Hanover College, where their five all-conference selections placed in the top 8 of the field. 

Other local runners joined the Milan bunch on the all-conference team are Cale Collier (Switzerland County), Mason Bascom (South Ripley), Luke Bradley (South Ripley), and Ethan Markland (Rising Sun). Of the four, Collier, Bascom, and Markland will run at regionals this weekend. 

The 2023 Boys Cross Country ORVC Mental Attitude winner is Sam Fewell, of Shawe Memorial. Milan's Brian Potts is the 2023 ORVC Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Switzerland County won the ORVC Girls Championship behind great performances from all-conference honorees Ellie Keith (3rd) , Claire Rogers (4th), Lainie McAlister (8th), and Ashlyn Covington (11th). The Lady Pacers went on to finish third at Sectional 20, qualifying as a team for Saturday's regional at Shelbyville. 

Fellow all-conference selections Elly Pots (Milan), Hannah Cooney (Milan), Elizabeth McKittrick (South Ripley) and Chloe Ivey, the 2023 Mental Attitude Award winner (South Ripley), will also compete at regionals. 

The 2023 Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year is Switzerland County's Tye Sullivan.
